House in Sutton

This Sutton project combines the extension and reorganisation of an existing family house with a substantial basement addition. At ground-floor level, the design improves the relationship between the kitchen, dining and living spaces, creating a clearer connection with the garden and bringing daylight further into the plan.

Below, the new basement provides the space for a private swimming pool, allowing a significant part of the brief to be accommodated without adding excessive above-ground mass. The relationship between the basement, existing house and new extensions was developed as one scheme, with circulation and natural light considered across the different levels. Externally, the new work remains simple and well proportioned so that the scale of the transformation is not immediately apparent from the street. Planning permission was secured for the proposals.
